Kokopo Beach Bungalow Resort from above

Rooms build from traditional materials sourced in Papua New Guinea. Each room is created to make you feel at home with brown timber Kwila floors and wild Kanda vine weaving on the walls. Big beds as comfortable as clouds, balcony with lush view, comfortable shower as well as AC.

This massive resort seems smaller in size when you arrive at first. Entrance showing you only reception area with local artist paintings here and there and gift shop windows behind you, but the moment you get to your room and step out on the balcony you realize, that this magical playground is way bigger than expected.

During your stay we have many activities available for you. Land tours to Japanese Tunnels, Volcano or local villages. Sea tours to the islands with white sandy beaches, Dolphin swims , pristine coral reefs, war wreckage underwater and island villages. As well as Scuba Diving for those wanting to explore planes underwater, shipwrecks underwater and dramatic wall drops. Our in house dive center Rabaul Dive Adventures( https://www.rabaul-dive-adventures.com/ )will help you create once in a lifetime trip.

For those who wish to catch up on reading and relax we have sunbeds right on the beach right by the water. Stand Up paddle boards and kayak are available every day for light exercise. And challenge to find Dugongs are always available. In the late afternoons sometimes Dugongs seem to be floating around nearby resort. Maybe you are the lucky one to spot one. I know I have!
Picture
All this topped with multi cuisine menu serving traditional dishes like Mumu, Aigir (East new Britain traditional dish ) , Kaukau, Taro, Pitpit, Tukuru, Aibika as well as international dishes like burgers, fish and chips , Chicken curry , Pizza , Noodles and of course selection of coffees and deserts.

For the best view in the house head down to the Tree top deck right in front of the restaurant. Here you get to right above the beach with amazing views of Rabaul Tavurvur Volcano, New Ireland mountain ranges and Duke of York islands. During sunset this spot becomes front row seat hotspot for all the colors in the sky over the volcano. And right when the sun is nearly down, we will plug in those tree lights to give that magical feeling.

Traditional style restaurant called HausWin provides great relaxing space with a touch of culture displayed around. On the wooden posts traditional wood carved masks can be seen brought in from Sepik region and New Ireland region, some as old as 15 years.

Above head old
traditional fishing traps / baskets can be seen now converted in to the lights. They are made of Kanda wine that’s been split into small size vines. Each basket is piece of art and takes time and care to make and is unique. Craft of making them have been passed down to the generations.

A quite magical place, the Duke of York Islands are a beautiful part of Papua New Guinea, safe and wonderfully inviting. Barely touched by tourism.
The untouched waters around Papua New Guinea are undoubtedly the best in the world for diving and snorkeling. A truly mesmerizing number of beautiful fish and marine life species .

Japanese tanks at the Duke of York islands.

The WWII tanks between Kokopo and Duke of York Island. These Japanese tanks lay in only 4 meters of water in Makada's natural harbor. The tanks are 15-ton 97 CHI-HA tanks and used to be armed with 57mm short barrel cannons and two 7.7mm machine-guns which are still visible
